Part 2 – Mid Season Women’s College Review of Mid Major Conferences
Part 2 Mid Major Review
The second half of the Mid-Majors is getting very competitive and with the Conference Tournaments just two weeks away everything is on the table to get in. These last few league games will determine home field, bye or byes to receive the highest seed possible which leaves us with so many games to watch with playoff implications to be played out.
Summit 10 Teams
South Dakota St RPI 57 is the only undefeated team in the country left at 10-0-5 and do have a tie at Arizona St RPI 18 and is second in standings in league. Denver RPI 105 is on top of Summit no pun intended and have won the last three regular season league titles, but it will be about winning the conference tournament to get into the NCAA which they have four of over the last 9 years with guess who yes South Dakota St winner the other five. Six teams get into the Summit tournament and the other 4 spots are up for grabs with two games left with a lot of scenarios to see who gets in. Keep watching.

The America East is extremely tight with 4 teams tied at the top on 13 pts. Maine RPI 141 is the only team undefeated in league but they have played one more game than the other three teams UMass Lowell RPI 135, New Hampshire RPI 162 and RPI Binghamton SUNY RPI 156. Six teams make the postseason America East Tournament with the top two seeds getting a bye. UMass is the only team that controls their own fate with New Hampshire and Binghamton SUNY left to play if they won both they would win the regular season. Will be very interesting to watch and will be very tight down the stretch to see who gets the automatic bid to the NCAA.

Southland 9 Teams
The Southland currently has a Top 50 RPI team in Lamar RPI 50 on the nose, but they do not have any Top 50 results which will make it extremely difficult for them to get in other than winning their conference tournament. Last year they played in the WAC losing in the semi-finals to conference champions Grand Canyon. So the change of conference is treating them well. Last year’s tournament champs Northwestern St RPI 89 are in second place and will be looking to have a say. Six teams make the conference tournament with Texas A&M Corpus Christi RPI 245 and Houston Baptist RPI 218 right there with two league games to play.

Metro Atlantic 11 Teams
Six teams get in the Metro Atlantic postseason tournament with #1 and #2 seeds getting a bye. Quinnipiac RPI 58 have been very competitive all year and did beat league leading Fairfield RPI 66 two weeks ago and with three games left they both control their own destiny. Unfortunately neither team has a Top 50 RPI Win so if they did get into the Top 50 RPI world they would not get considered for NCAA at Large Berth unfortunately.

Mid-America 12 Teams
Buffalo with strong RPI 48 is leading the charge and on top league with Ball St RPI 159 and Kent St RPi 169 following. 8 Teams get into the postseason with a lot of competitive unpredictability from top to bottom. Buffalo don’t have a Top 50 RPI win and their only loss of the season coming to Rutgers RPI 14 so it will most likely need to be tournament champions for them to get into the NCAAs with everyone else in the Mid-America looking for the upset.

Ohio Valley 9 Teams
The Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championships has 8 teams with four rounds to decide the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. So predicting the champion may be a little hard. Right now Tennessee Tech RPI 144 and Moorhead St RPI 267 are tied on the top of league standings with two games to go.Ohio Valley Overall Record 36-50-36

Missouri Valley 11 Teams
Another Conference that starts with four rounds in their postseason to determine automatic bid for NCAAs. The #1 and #2 seeds get two byes and #3 and #4 seeds get one bye with #5 #6 #7 and #8 all having to win 4 games to be NCAA bound. Sounds a little complicated yes but also sounds very exciting for all involved. Currently Missouri St RPI 126 control their own destiny with one league game left to win the regular season. Southern Illinois RPI 199 and Valparaiso RPI 247 will be looking to secure one or the prefered two byes this weekend with still so much on the line.

Boston U RPI 142 is next, who got beat at home in a close game to Bucknell over the weekend. Northeast 10 Teams
The Northeast has been dominated by Central Conn RPI 191 with them winning the last 4 championships. Six teams make the postseason conference tournament with the #1 and #2 getting a bye. There are two games left for most of the Northeast it will be a tight race to see who claims the regular season with Fairleigh Dickinson RPI 235 the main candidate after a tough competitive game on the road at the Blue Devils that ended up in tie. Should be a really good to watch with so much to play for.
